Englishman Justin Rose fired a seven-under-par 63 to climb into second place after the second round of the BMW Championship. The 38-year-old ended day two on 11-under and he is now two off the lead, with American Xander Schauffele leading the way.
Fellow Brit Rory McIlroy dropped down the leaderboard after he could only manage a one-under 69 on Friday.
Tiger Woods also went the same way as he bogeyed his final two holes for a level-par 70.
Schauffele narrowly missed out on an automatic spot in Jim Furyk’s United States Ryder Cup team but a win this weekend could earn him the fourth and final wildcard pick.
He said: “I feel like I’m sort of on a mission here. I have lots to prove to myself… and I just want to win and just handle my business.”
