Hull KR have signed Mitch Garbutt from the Leeds Rhinos with the prop forward becoming their fourth signing of the close season. The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Rovers and joins fellow former Rhinos’ stars Jimmy Keinhorst and Weller Hauraki in East Yorkshire, as well as Ryan Lannon.
Garret was a big hit at Headingley after signing in 2015 but injury ruined the last campaign. He underwent knee surgery in August but says he will be fully fit for Rovers and claims coach Tim Sheens was instrumental in his signing.
“Everyone’s been welcoming, it was a good first hit out today and there’s some characters and some really good people in the team,” Garbutt explained. “The opportunity came up to leave Leeds, I had a chat with a few people and then met with Tim and he was really good.
“He was really straight forward with what he wanted and I think I’ll fit in really well here. “I’m looking forward to the first game, I think the Derby is really exciting. I’ve always enjoyed playing against both Hull sides and obviously I’m looking forward to the East Stand maybe cheering for me and not yelling abuse at me.”
