Northampton Saints have been rocked by the news Harry Mallinder looks set to miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
Mallinder picked up the injury during the Challenge Cup defeat against Clermont Auvergne earlier this month, and tried to play on before eventually leaving the field.
After undergoing scans last week, Saints decided an operation was needed, and the club have revealed the procedure took place on Tuesday morning.
The full extent of the damage has yet to be revealed, but Saints boss Chris Boyd revealed the player is likely to be missing for the remainder of this season.
“Harry’s operation is today and he’s got a significant knee injury,” said Boyd at Tuesday afternoon’s media session. “It depends what they find when they go in there but he’s probably doubtful for the rest of the season.”
The 22-year-old also took to instagram to keep his fans updated.
“I’m devastated, but it’s an opportunity to become a better player and person,” he said. “I’m grateful to have such good people with me on my journey, thank you for all your continued support.”
