Southampton scouted Huesca’s 1-1 draw with Girona on Sunday with former target Ruben Semedo in action but Patrick Roberts benched.
Saints’ representative could have been watching many players but both Semedo and Roberts, both on loan at Huesca and Girona respectively, have been linked to St Mary’s in the past.
The club were reportedly keen on centre-back Semedo in 2017 but he eventually left Sporting Lisbon to join Villarreal for 14m euros.
However, any potential interest in the 24-year-old must be doubtful now because he is currently unable to leave Spain while awaiting trial on charges of robbery, assault, kidnapping and attempted murder.

On February 20, he was detained by Spanish police for allegedly tying up and assaulting a man in his home alongside two others, then proceeding to go to the victim’s house to rob the property.
Villarreal let him join Huesca on loan after he paid 30,000 euros for bail in July and he has been playing regularly again this season for the Primera Division newcomers.
Roberts would seem a more likely target for Southampton who reportedly kept close tabs on the Manchester City player while he was on loan at Celtic for two years.
And, although the 21-year-old did not get on during Sunday’s match, Saints could maintain a careful watch over his development in La Liga.
