Xander Schauffele has claimed his second PGA Tour title after defeating Tony Finau in a play-off to seal the WGC-HSBC Champions. The American duo had to battle it out in a tense play-off after Schauffele birdied his final two holes to finish the day on four-under 68.
Schauffele’s strong finish took him to the top of leaderboard alongside overnight leader Finau, who posted a final round of 71 on 14-under.
After returning to the 18th Finau was immediately in trouble when finding the bunker and Xander took advantage.
He found the par-five green in two and two-putted to claim a third successive birdie and subsequently the WGC-HSBC Champions crown.
“I felt like I was playing great all day,” Schauffele said.
“We kept our heads down. Even when I was signing my card I was like, ‘oh, wow, I actually went birdie-birdie to get in the play-off’. I was just in my own world out there.
“It means a lot, it was my birthday this week. To have my family out here, especially with the win, it’s really special.”
