Schmeichel Has Conflicted Feelings Ahead Of Cardiff Return

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel says he will have conflicted feelings about playing in Cardiff this week. Schmeichel is part of the Denmark squad that will take on Wales in the UEFA Nations League at the Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, but the return to that venue will stir up a number of emotions for the 32-year-old.

Leicester played their first game following the tragic death of owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at the venue earlier this month and, despite Cardiff putting on a fitting tribute and the Foxes winning the match 1-0, Schmeichel admits he has mixed feelings about returning to the ground so soon.

“It’s probably not really the place that I personally wanted to be after the last time,” Schmeichel was quoted as saying by the Leicester Mercury. “But we’ve got good memories. It was a good tribute that we had and a really good result. “It’s a kind of different feeling, but I’m still looking forward to it.”

Schmeichel will come up against Leicester team-mates Danny Ward and Andy King during Friday’s match, with both teams knowing a win will be enough to see them finish top of the group. “It’s a must-win game, but it’s no different to any other game for us,” Schmeichel added. “We’ve got to go and win, simple.”
