Season Looks To Be Over For Serena

Serena Williams appears to have prematurely ended her 2018 season after withdrawing from the upcoming China Open. The 23-times Grand Slam winner had expected to return to the court for the first time since her infamous outburst in the US Open final defeat at the hands of Japan’s Naomi Osaka when she was docked a point and then a game after denying claims of being coached form the sidelines.

However, Williams’ name, along with her sister Venus, was missing from the list of 64 players set to line up in Beijing for the tournament which is a mandatory date on the WTA calendar.

No reason has been given for her absence, but it now seems that the 37-year-old American will break off and focus her attentions on being ready for the Australian Open in January as she targets a 24th major win to move level with Margaret Court’s long-standing record.
