Hull KR boss Tim Sheens has warned his side they must be able to cope with pressure in the middle 8s. Sheens’ side have a daunting trip to defending Super League champions Leeds Rhinos on Saturday and are hoping to build on their previous victory as they ran out 28-22 winners against high flying Toronto Wolfpack.
They currently sit fifth in the middle 8s, which at this early stage would mean participation in the so-called Million Pound Game, which they have painful memories of from two years ago when they were beaten by Salford Red Devils.
And Sheens says his squad must handle the pressure to avoid being sucked into the battle.
“The pressure is still on, we’re one from two and we do not want to be one from three. There’s some anxiety in this series but it’s how you handle it,” he told the club website.
“A lot of our guys are used to it having played in the competition before but there was less pressure on us last year as a Championship side whereas now there’s expectation on us as a Super League team by the fans, from ourselves and the club.
“We have to play under that, but we have big-game players with not too many youngsters in the group. The experienced guys know what’s expected of them and it’s down to them to lead the way.”
