Silva: Everton Deserved More

Everton deserved more from their visit to Arsenal on Sunday, according to boss Marco Silva. The Toffees lost 2-0 as their bad run continued – they have now failed to win in their last four Premier League games.

They created decent chances against the Gunners, most notably in the first half when both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Theo Walcott failed to find the net with only keeper Petr Cech to beat.

They were made to pay for their wastefulness when Alexander Lacazette scored with a stunning strike after the break before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made it two, although his effort should have been ruled out for offside.

Silva said: “I think we deserved a bit more this afternoon for our players and for our fans as well – they came here to support our players.

“But in these moments and at this level we have to be more effective. In our last game (a 3-1 home defeat to West Ham), without a good performance, we created clear, clear chances and more than our opponent to achieve a different result.

“(Against Arsenal) our performance was good and we created chances from the first minute, with Dominic, until the last minute.
“We dominated many moments of the game as well.”

Midfielder Tom Davies, who captained the side at the age of 20, added on the club’s official website: “I thought we were very good in the first half and we are disappointed with the result.

“We created a few chances and had a good shape but if you don’t take your chances Arsenal will punish you. They scored a great goal and we just could not get back into the game.

“If we had scored it would have given us something to hold onto. But they hit us with two sucker punches and it is a difficult one to take.”
Everton are back in action on Saturday when they host Fulham.
