Singapore Keen To Host ATP Finals

Singapore is expected to challenge London for the right to host the season-ending ATP Tour Finals from 2021.

London has been the host city for the culmination of the men’s season since 2009 and the tournament has proved popular with fans and players alike at the O2 Arena.

The ATP confirmed in August an international tender process is open for the future of the finals from 2021 and reports say Singapore are the leading candidate to stage the coveted event, should it move elsewhere in three years’ time.

The city state’s governing sports body, Sport Singapore, has confirmed, in conjunction with the Singapore Tourism Board and the Sports Hub venue, that it will bid to stage the men’s tournament from 2021.

Singapore is already the host for the WTA Finals and they are keen to attract the men’s end-of-season event as well, although one potential stumbling block is the fact the Sports Hub arena can only accommodate 12,000 fans, as opposed to the 17,500 that can pack into the O2 in London.

The potential candidate cities are expected to be revealed in two weeks’ time and it’s unclear if any other cities will enter the fray, while the final decision will not be made before March 2019.
