Smalling’s United Future Called Into Question

Chris Smalling is out of contract next summer and there are concerns over his Man Utd future after his luxury home went on the market. The England central defender had grown accustomed in recent seasons to people speculating over his Old Trafford future.

Long-term admirers Arsenal are again being linked with bringing the Londoner back to the capital and Smalling is aware Jose Mourinho wants to bring in another centre-back to bolster his options, having missed out on Leicester City’s Harry Maguire during the summer.

The Red Devils are believed to have an option to extend Smalling’s deal by a further year but it remains quiet on that front so far.

Smalling’s Cheshire mansion is up for sale for £2.5m and the decision to sell-up will leave United fans asking where he might be playing his football in the not too distant future.

The 28-year-old joined from Fulham for £10m way back in 2010 and has fought a constant battle to establish himself as a first-choice pick at the heart of the United rearguard.
