Spalletti Calm After Inter Loss

Luciano Spalletti is refusing to panic after seeing Inter Milan slip to defeat against Sassuolo in their opening Serie A match. The Nerazzurri are seen by many as the main threat to Juventus’ hopes of winning another title, but they did not show any signs of that when going down 1-0 last night.

Domenico Berardi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot, and although Spalletti was clearly unhappy with the officials, he preferred to criticise his players.

“At the end I greeted the trio [of officials],” Spalletti explained, “and I discussed certain things with them, but nothing else happened, and I’ve nothing else to say.

“I must admit that our opponents played well, they worked on the counter-attack, they let us have the play and in the meantime were compact and didn’t give us anything.

“Going behind complicated everything, we weren’t good enough at finding a way to get back, and they were able to counter-attack us even better then.”
