Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti says he was greatly encouraged by Ivan Perisic’s comments about his desire to stay at the club.
The Croatian has been regularly linked with Manchester United in recent years and revealed earlier this week that he came close to joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2017.

However, Spalletti’s appointment and the kind words towards him from the boss persuaded the winger to stay in Italy – a decision he does not regret.
United continue to be linked with a deal although Perisic’s comments suggest he is no longer interested.
Ahead of Sunday’s trip to former club Roma, the boss has spoken of his delight at the 29-year-old’s stance, especially as he sees him as a big part of his plans for the team.
“They are normal statements,” he said. “We are in a football in evolution, I trust especially when I speak directly to the players, but in this case especially. “For his way of being with us, I think he is happy to be part of Inter, he is happy to be part of it and of the emotional participation behind the team.”
