Tottenham want to avoid becoming embroiled in a bidding war with Real Madrid for Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios. The Daily Star on Sunday claim Spurs are still keen on the Colombian holding midfielder, who was targeted by the Lilywhites last summer.
Barrios intends to leave Boca Juniors in January and could emerge as a serious target for Real Madrid as the Champions League winners continue to rebuild their midfield.
The Bernabeu giants are rumoured to be already lining up an offer of £20m and the report says Spurs fear the price could escalate when the transfer window re-opens in January.
Spurs came close to securing a deal for Barrios after the World Cup and are still in contention to sign him.
The 25-year-old has a £16million release clause in his contract with the Buenos Aires club.
