England have handed a recall to Ben Stokes for the third Test against India at Trent Bridge on Saturday with Sam Curran making way. The selectors have wasted no time in bringing the 27-year-old Durham all-rounder back into the fold after he was found not guilty of affray earlier in the week.
Stokes’ trial at Bristol Crown Court meant he missed the second Test at Lord’s, which England comfortably won by an innings and 159 runs to go 2-0 ahead in the five-match series.
However, he comes back in place of Curran after he followed up his man-of-the-match performance in the first Test with just one wicket last week.
Speaking about Stokes’ return, England captain Joe Root told BBC Sport: “It’s probably the toughest call I’ve had to make as Test captain.
“Ben is a proven performer for us for a long period of time and he also played exceptionally well at Edgbaston. He’s in a really good place to go out and play for England.”
