Thompson Eclipses Curry Benchmark

Klay Thompson was the star for the Golden State Warriors as he set a new NBA record for three-pointers in a single game. The 28-year-old scored 14 three-pointers on the way to finishing with a 52-point haul as the Warriors cruised past the Chicago Bulls 149-124 at the United Center.

Team-mate Steph Curry previously held the benchmark, set back in 2016 when threw 13 three-pointers against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The win in Illinois improved the Warriors’ record to 7-1 for the season and the Western Conference’s top team will expect to add to their tally when the Pelicans visit the Oracle Arena on Wednesday.

Rather than any intra-team rivalry, the shooting guard says Curry encouraged him to go for the record, an attitude he feels epitomises the star point guard.

“I was so anxious because any time there’s an NBA record at stake, you get a little nervous,” said Thompson. “I’m just so blessed to play with the guys that I do. It was an amazing night I’ll hopefully never forget.

“Before I went out for the second half, Steph just looked at the box score and said ‘go get it’.
“That shows the unselfishness that’s within him.”
