Oliver Fisher has been joined by Lucas Herbert and Eddie Pepperell at the top of the Portugal Masters leaderboard on 12-under par. Englishman Fisher created history at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Club on Friday as he became the first man in European Tour history to shoot a sub-60 round after carding a 59.
The 30-year-old only managed level-par 71 in round one but his stunning score ensured he set the clubhouse lead earlier in the day.
However, overnight leader Herbert followed up his bogey-free opening round of 63 with a 67 to move level with Fisher, while Pepperell joined them later courtesy of his 66.
Herbert told the European Tour website: “I would have liked to have probably taken a bit more advantage of those conditions but I’m still happy to be in the position that I am going into the weekend.
“The one thing lacking from the resume at the moment is a win so if I can keep putting myself in a good position going into Sunday that would mean quite a lot – to get a win out here in Europe.”
Fisher and Pepperell’s fellow compatriot Matt Wallace, who is going for win number four this season, remains firmly in the hunt in fourth spot, just one shot off the leading trio after a 67, while Renato Paratore and Haotong Li share fifth spot on 10-under.
