Tuilagi In Line For England Return

Defence coach John Mitchell has revealed that Manu Tuilagi could return to face Australia in England’s final autumn international. The 27-year-old Leicester centre was on course to make his comeback from injury to feature in coach Eddie Jones’ plans for the opening Test against South Africa at Twickenham on November 3, only for a groin problem picked up in training to scupper those plans.

Tuilagi subsequently missed the 12-11 win against the Springboks and Saturday’s 16-15 defeat against world champions New Zealand.

This weekend’s third game against Japan is set to come too soon for Tuilagi, but Mitchell is looking for him to feature in the November 24 showdown against the Wallabies.

“Manu is progressing nicely,” he said. “He was doing some running intervals with the medical team. We’ll make a decision once he’s at 100% but we’re working him towards the Australia game. “It’s an adductor injury that needs to be trained at high intensity. “He hasn’t reached high intensity yet, so he is progressing towards that.”
