Tuilagi Returns To England Bench

Manu Tuilagi has been included among the replacements for England’s final Autumn International against Australia on Saturday. The Leicester Tigers centre has not featured for Eddie Jones’ side since the 2016 Six Nations but, after overcoming the groin injury that ruled him out of the opening three internationals of the autumn, he has been included on the bench for this weekend’s match at Twickenham.

Co-captain Dylan Hartley joins Tuilagi on the bench as Jamie George has been preferred at hooker, while wing Joe Cokanasiga retains his place after making a scoring debut against Japan last weekend.

Cokanasiga has benefited from the injuries suffered by Jack Nowell and Chris Ashton while, in total, Jones has made nine changes from the side that beat the Brave Blossoms 35-15 last time out.

England will certainly fancy their chances of rounding off the autumn with a victory over Australia, as they have won their last five Tests against the Wallabies and Jones is in confident mood heading into the weekend. “We’ve picked our best 23 for the Australia game,” said Jones.

“We know they have a unique style of attack so our ability to defend that is going to be important. “We are continually working on our strengths which is our set-piece and our defence and they are areas that are progressing nicely.

“I’m really happy with the direction we’re going in terms of the way we play the game. We are developing a unique style of rugby, which is English and the players are proud to play that way.”
