United Eye French Prospects

Manchester United are making a concerted effort to ramp up their scouting efforts in France. The Red Devils have identified Ligue 1 academies as a hot bed of footballing talent and feel they have been playing catch-up in recent seasons to rivals Manchester City and Chelsea.

Les Blues’ recent World Cup win has only upheld the feeling amongst United’s scouts that they need to be far more proactive when it comes to identifying talented French youngsters.

Legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson was a big advocate during his time and it was his spies that helped the club sight a young Paul Pogba at Le Havre.

United have appointed respected French scout Romain Poirot and recently welcomed 17-year-old midfield prospect Aliou Traore from Paris Saint-Germain, with the teenager tipped for big things.

Under the eye of academy director and former United player Nicky Butt, the club has been investing significant funds to revamp their global scouting network, with France now firmly back on their radar.
