United Squad Face Logistic Issues

Manchester United’s squad have been warned they face a year of traffic problems ahead of future home games at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been charged by UEFA after arriving just 44 minutes before Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Valencia, which also saw the kick-off delayed by five minutes.

Things aren’t about to improve anytime soon, however, with major roadworks taking place for the next 12 months along the three mile route the Manchester giants must take to reach the stadium from their city-centre hotel.

It took United 75 minutes, rather than the usual half hour, with yellow signs visible all around Manchester warning commuters to allow extra time for their journey, owing to improvements being made at the major artery roundabout of Regent Road and Mancunian Way.

Jose Mourinho cited the lack of a police escort on the night and the rush-hour traffic chaos, which was also partly blamed for the recent stay-away of many Manchester City fans at their Champions League home defeat to Lyon.

Questions are now being asked why the administration at United did not make extra provision for their journey, considering the warnings the Highways Agency have had in place for well over a month.
