Jamaal Lascelles, Jonjo Shelvey and Yoshinori Muto are all expected to miss Newcastle’s home clash against Bournemouth on Saturday. Japan international Muto was forced off in first-half stoppage time in last Saturday’s 1-0 win over Watford after picking up a calf injury and he was replaced by match-winner Ayoze Perez.
Captain Lascelles, who recently penned a new six-year contract, then failed to return from the tunnel for the second half before midfielder Shelvey was substituted six minutes after the restart due to a muscular problem.
All three have been assessed closely this week and, at Friday’s press conference, Rafael Benitez revealed the trio are unlikely to play any part in the match against the Cherries at St James’ Park.
Ki Sung-Yeung and Fabian Schar, who both joined the Magpies during the summer transfer window, are expected to be handed starts after impressing when coming off the bench last time out.
Danish star Elias Sorensen was included in first-team training this season and the young striker could be named on the bench as Newcastle struggle to deal with the injuries.
