US Investors Eye Newcastle Purchase

A group of US investors are reported to be ready to pay Mike Ashley’s £300million asking price as they look to snap up Newcastle.

Ashley put the club up for sale a year ago but had not had much luck in attracting potential buyers up until last month when a consortium, led by form Chelsea and Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon, were said to be interested.

The Daily Mail are now reporting that a group of investors from the United States are prepared to jump ahead of Kenyon and co by agreeing to pay Ashley’s asking price.

The report claims the collection of “seriously wealthy” businessmen view Newcastle as a sleeping giant and are ready to invest the funds needed to put the club on a par with those at the top end of the Premier League.

However, they do have serious concerns over the Toon’s top-flight status with Rafael Benitez’s side currently sat in 19th place without a win from their first eight matches.

Any deal at Ashley’s asking price would hinge on Newcastle’s Premier League survival and the investment group will wait to see how the next six months plays out before making their move.
