Verstappen Hyped Up For Honda Switch

Max Verstappen says the whole Red Bull team are upbeat and excited to be running Honda power units from next season. Red Bull will bring down the curtain on their long-standing engine partnership with Renault at the end of this season and join sister team Toro Rosso in working with Honda.

The Japanese manufacturer endured a torrid time when partnered up with McLaren upon their return to Formula 1 in 2015 but appear to be finally moving in the right direction.

Rumours emerging from the F1 paddock suggest the latest upgrades to the Honda unit will move it ahead of Renault in the power stakes, with Red Bull have spoken very positively about closing the gap on Mercedes and Ferrari next season.

Verstappen is the latest member of the team to hail the switch, indicating he expects the move away from Renault to aid his chances of winning a first Drivers’ Championship.

Asked about using Honda engines next year, the Dutchman told Sky Sports: “Very excited. They seemed really quick.
“Now we try to finish off the season in the best way possible and then the whole team is very motivated to start working on next year.

“The whole team is very upbeat, excited and motivated.”
