David Wagner is facing another anxious international break this October as injuries continue to eat into his Huddersfield squad. The Town boss lost defenders Christopher Schindler and Terence Kongolo to respective hamstring and knee injury problems during last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat against Tottenham.
And, while it is unlikely that they will be fit to feature in Saturday’s trip to face Burnley at Turf Moor, midfield duo Danny Williams and Ramadan Sobhi will definitely be absent because of knee injuries.
The problem facing Wagner is Mathias ‘Zanka’ Jorgensen has been called up by Denmark for upcoming matches against the Republic of Ireland and Austria.
And, were he to suffer an injury on international duty, that could massively hamper the German’s selection plans for big games coming later this month.
Young stopper Jon Gorenc Stankovic is likely to be drafted into the side for the Burnley trip, but he is in the Slovenia Under 21 squad for internationals against Bulgaria and France so that is another worry for Wagner, who could potentially be left without a fit centre-half for the visit of Liverpool on October 20.
The Premier League’s basement side will also be hoping striker Steve Mounie and the in-form Philip Billing come through their international outings with Benin and Denmark’s Under-21s respectively.
