Watford are keeping tabs on Nantes’ Argentinean striker Emiliano Sala after reportedly seeing a £14million bid rejected in the summer. The Hornets sent a scout to watch the 27-year-old in Nantes’ Ligue 1 match at Bordeaux on Sunday, but he failed to add to his tally of four goals in six starts and two substitute run-outs.
Back in August, reports in France claimed Watford were ready to come back in with an improved offer for Sala after having a 16.5m euros bid knocked back by the French club.
The trail then went cold but Watford’s decision to send a representative to Nantes’ 3-0 defeat at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique suggests there could still be an interest in the player from within Vicarage Road.
Sala has scored 12 Ligue 1 goals in each of the past two seasons in France and has shown up well in a struggling side this term.
Last month L’Equipe claimed Sala rejected moves to both Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion this year, but they claimed that he was keen on a switch to Turkish champions Galatasaray.
Nantes have failed to extend his contract, that runs until 2020, leaving them with a decision to make over accepting a bid in the January transfer window.
