Williamson Hails Black Caps Win

Kane Williamson described New Zealand’s remarkable four-run win over Pakistan in the first Test as the best yet. Pakistan looked on course to wrap up a comfortable win as they were set a target of just 176 runs by the Black Caps.

They then needed just 41 runs with six wickets in hand to take the win, but New Zealand had other ideas.
Black Caps debutant Ajaz Patel was the hero as he recorded figures of 5-59 as Pakistan were bowled out for 171, just short of their target.

“(That was) The best in recent memory,” he said in Abu Dhabi. “In these conditions Pakistan are a very strong side. To get through them in four days and stay in the match and come out with this result must obviously rank as one of our best wins.”

Williamson now has nine wins from his 18 Tests as captain, and could not be more proud of his players after this latest win. “The wicket was challenging and both teams had to fight hard, and certainly Pakistan had the upper-hand, but some of the characteristics we held very dear is the attitude to fight on.

“I think the fighting attributes of this team really shone through and certainly today, it´s important to build on a number of parts to go in to the next game, for sure.”
