Wilshere Out To Prove A Point

Jack Wilshere feels West Ham have a decent chance of beating Arsenal on Saturday and is out to prove a point to his former club. The midfielder left the Gunners for nothing this summer after being associated with the club for 17 years, with the Hammers snapping him up on a three-year contract.

Things have not gone exactly to plan at the London Stadium to date, with the East End outfit going down 4-0 at Liverpool in their season-opener before falling 2-1 at home to Bournemouth last time out.

Neither West Ham nor Arsenal have earned a point this term and so something will have to give at the Emirates, and Wilshere feels his side have an opportunity to take something from the game.

The 26-year-old told the Hammers’ matchday programme: “First of all, I’ve got to concentrate on football and I quite fancy our chances. I obviously know them really well.

“They’ve got a new manager, but I know the players, so hopefully it’ll be a good time to play them.”

The England midfielder admits it will be an odd feeling to face a club that was part of his life for so long but believes there is an opportunity for him to set the record straight with a strong showing.

“It’ll be a strange one for me as I was never able to go there and play when I went out on loan as you can play against your parent club, but it’s one I’m looking forward to,” he added. “It’s down to me to prove a point to Arsenal that they were wrong to get rid of me.”
