West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere says he is refusing to give up all hope of representing England once again. Wilshere’s injury problems of the past have prevented him from making the amount of England performances that many were predicting when he burst on to the scene as an Arsenal youngster.

The midfielder still has time on his side if he can get back to his best but appears to be out of favour as far as Three Lions boss Gareth Soutgate is concerned.
He was left out of England’s World Cup squad despite proving his fitness ahead of the summer, which is a clear signal that Southgate does not fancy him. The two have not spoken since before the finals in Russia but Wilshere still has hopes of adding to his 34 caps at some point in the future.
“No, I haven’t heard from [Southgate],” said Wilshere. “But as a footballer and as an English player playing in England, the day that you say you don’t want to play for your national team or give up, is the day you should really give up playing football.”
