Woolford Critical Of Refereeing Standard

Huddersfield Giants head coach Simon Woolford has criticised the standard of refereeing in the Super League. The West Yorkshire outfit ended their campaign with a 22-12 defeat at Catalans Dragons on Saturday, despite leading through tries from brothers Louis and Innes Senior.

David Mead ran home four tries for Catalans in the second half to seal the win and subsequently hand a third successive loss to Huddersfield.

Referee Greg Dolan sin-binned three players in the clash and Woolford was quick to criticise the standard of officiating throughout the Super League after the full-time whistle.

Woolford said: “I’ve said all along that there are a lot of good players over here, the adjudication of the sport over here is where the main differences are.

“The days of one referee are numbered and I think they are looking at a two-referee system next year. Things like offside and things that happen in the ruck will be more heavily scrutinised and it’s really hard for one referee to have a handle on.

“I thought both sides got away with being offside quite often and it was frustrating from our point of view.”
