World Cup Has Helped Neymar – Alves

Dani Alves believes Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Neymar has learned valuable lessons from the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Brazil international Neymar, who joined the French giants for a world-record fee in the summer of 2017, came under huge criticism for his antics at the major tournament and his reputation has been harmed.

The 26-year-old exaggerated fouls on numerous occasions and many viewers were pleased to see the Selecao knocked out in Russia at the semi-quarter-final stage by Roberto Martinez’s Belgium.

Now the domestic action has returned, Alves, who missed the World Cup due to injury, says his compatriot has matured as a player after being singled out for criticism.

“Some things happen in your life to create maturity, this awareness of what you have to improve as a person, as a professional. When things are not perfect that is when you have to take a step forward, it’s time to improve and reinvent yourself,” he told Fox Sports.

“I talked to Neymar a lot about that. I believe he is aware and more experienced. The scrutiny will create a maturity and we will see a change of behaviour. Like that, you stop being a boy and become a man.”
