West Ham new boy Andriy Yarmolenko admits he has been shocked by the size of the club’s fanbase. The Ukrainian joined the Hammers in the summer from Borussia Dortmund for £17.5m and after some decent early signs he came into his own as he bagged a brace in the 3-1 win at Everton.
Despite a poor miss in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea, Yarmolenko looks to be settling into life at the club well and admits he has been shocked by the level of support.
Having previously played for both Dortmund and Dynamo Kiev, the 28-year-old knows a thing or two about passionate fans.
The winger admits he has been shocked by just how many supporters West Ham possess, suggesting their following is underrated abroad in comparison to their local rivals.
He said: “There are many, many fans of West Ham, that was really a surprise for me.
“In Ukraine, Ukrainian people think only of Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal in London, but when I come to London, West Ham is a big team with unbelievable fans.”
