Zinedine Zidane is believed to be keen on the Man Utd job even though his agent has played down the chances of him taking over. His agent Alain Migliaccio stated the former Real Madrid boss plans to take a year out from the game and does not think the Premier League would be a good fit for his style of management.
It’s also reported the legendary France World Cup winner has been in contact with Jose Mourinho during the last fortnight to assure the Manchester United boss that he is not plotting behind his back to replace him.
However, the smart money is still on the 46-year-old Zidane being United’s preferred option if they do decide to dispense with Mourinho’s services at some point.
United insiders have also hinted at previously encouraging sounds from his inner circle that the Frenchman would be tempted by an offer from the Manchester giants.
The Red Devils remain tight-lipped behind the scenes over Mourinho’s immediate future, although there is a palpable sense they are running out of suitable candidates if results do continue to disappoint on the pitch.
Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a confirmed admirer of Spurs chief Mauricio Pochettino, although Zidane’s huge standing within the game has plenty around the club still believing he would be the perfect fit, should the board be forced into making a change.
