Gianfranco Zola praised the performances of Chelsea loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori during the 3-2 win over Derby County. The Blues loaned the duo to the Rams for the season to help with their development and it seems to be paying off as they impressed on Frank Lampard’s return to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea twice went into the lead, with Derby fighting back on both occasions, before Cesc Fabregas grabbed what turned out to be the winner in the 41st minute.
Two of the Chelsea goals were own goals, one of which was scored by Tomori, but Zola says that took nothing away from his performance over the 90 minutes.
“He [Tomori] has been unlucky with the own goal, but the performance he and Keogh put on afterwards was excellent,” the Chelsea assistant told reporters. “It happens. If he hadn’t touched that ball, [Alvaro] Morata would have scored a goal. He played well. Mason Mount played excellent. It looks like they’re in good hands. They’re doing very well for the team. The coaching they’re getting is excellent.”
