Vera Zvonareva is through to the Engie Open de Limoges semi-finals after beating sixth seed Tatjana Maria in the last eight. The Russian overcame her German opponent 6-2 6-7 6-4 in a hard-fought encounter in Limoges and will now take her place in the last four.
Zvonareva, who has also made it through to the doubles semis alongside Timea Bacsinszky, will play Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semis. Alexandrova beat home favorite Pauline Parmentier 7-5 6-1, while Margarita Gasparyan was the first player through to the semis when she beat Anna Blinkova in two sets, 6-4 6-2.
Zvonareva, 34, has enjoyed an improvement in 2018, although the former world number two is still only ranked 123rd in the world. She has enjoyed some success in doubles this year, though, winning the St Petersburg Trophy playing with Bacsinszky, while she claimed the Moscow River Cup partnering Anastasia Potapova.
