Iroha: It’s Sweet Victory

–Iroha urges Eagles to keep the spirit

Former Nigeria left-back, Ben Iroha has described Super Eagles 3-1 defeat of Sudan in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Abuja as a revival moment for the a likely eventual actualization of their 2015 AFCON dream.

Iroha who spoke from his USA base moments after the game said he was impressed with the fighting spirit exhibited by the players, stating that should they maintain that mentality, victory will be assured in the coming game in Congo.

“I must say congratulation to the players and their coaches, they made every one of us happy today and really showed that they have the wining mentality”, starts Iroha who also won the 1994 Nations Cup in Tunisia with the Super Eagles.

“The hype before the game, the importance of it in our aspiration to put our 2015 AFCON ambition back on track apparently unnerved the players but I’m happy the way they responded to it.

“They displayed the true spirit of the Super Eagles, fighting from the start to finish and with this determination, I’m sure they can shock Congo in Point Noir in the next game.”

The one time Flying Eagles assistant coach who also won the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup as late Yemi Tella’s assistant coach further commended Nigerians for the huge support given to the team during the game.

“I didn’t expect such huge turnout of fans at the stadium, it shows Nigerians still appreciate the Super Eagles, it shows they still believe the team can turn the table against their opponents and qualify.

“Yes, the gates of the stadium was thrown open to make fans turn up, but I believe even if tickets were sold, Nigerians would still come to the stadium because they want the team to be in Morocco next year and no matter the odd position we find ourselves, the redemption has started and just as we did in 1993 against Algeria on our way to qualifying for the 1994 World Cup, Super Eagles can shock Congo in the return match”, Iroha told Complete Sports.
