Lavezzini Parma point guard Uju Ugoka is eager to return to the D’Tigres squad for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament billed for 13 June to19 June in the French city of Nantes.
Ugoka who rued her absence from the squad at the AfroBasket Women 2015 in Yaounde, Cameroon where the team finished third to qualify for the WOQT hopes to make a greater impact at the WOQT.
“I’m looking forward to representing Nigeria at the Olympic Qualifier in June and I hope we can make a great impact,” she told FIBA.com.
“I was disappointed not being able to compete for Nigeria at the AfroBasket as my Italian Club did not release me for the tournament.”
The 22-year-old also insists Nigeria have what it takes to reach their target but will need to perform as a team both from a sporting perspective as well as an administrative one.
D Tigress must win at least three games in France to earn one of the five spots available for the Rio 2016 Games.
“It is not going be easy but it is very doable to be successful at the Olympic Qualifier,” she said.
