Iwobi “Forever Grateful” To Wenger For Influence On Career

By Adeboye Amosu:

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi has praised Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for the Frenchman’s role in shaping his career at the club, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

Wenger will quit role at the end of the season having spent over two decades with the Gunners.

He made his decision known through a press statement on Friday.

Iwobi is one of the youngsters the Frenchman has mentored at the club, graduating from the club’s academy to the first team.

“For Everything You’ve Done For Arsenal Football Club, For Trusting Me As A Teenager, For Giving Me The Opportunity To Express Myself And Grow Both As A Footballer And As A Person, I Will Forever Be Grateful To You Boss. Thank You So Much! ❤,” Iwobi wrote on Twitter on Friday.

The 21-year-old who joined Arsenal while still at primary school was first involved in a first-team match as an unused substitute in a League Cup match against West Bromwich Albion in September 2013.

He made his first-team debut for the club, starting in a 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Round of 16 of the League Cup in October 2015.

The winger made his Premier League debut four days later in a 3-0 win against
Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, as a stoppage time substitute for Mesut Özil .

Wenger won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups in his 22 years at Arsenal. He could win his first European trophy in his final season as the club are in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.

Iwobi, that’s good of you. I pray Arsenal should bring in another Wenger as it concerns bringing in African players and developing and believing in young talents.

  • @Iwobi, you forgot to include one point in this tribute. You didn’t include a pix showing you shedding tears as this fatherly and grandfatherly figure will soon leave the stage. Just whisper into my ear alone, did you not cry when he break the news? Talk true. It’s not just Iwobi that might have cried for this man leaving not just Arsenal but Football generally. As for the female fans, that is sure. Daily Mirror tabloid carried it that an Arsenal legend Wilson breakdown when writing his tributes. Breakdown no be cry? Oho!! Some are regretting that they call for his sack or resignation or something. All in all, from my readings so far, people love this man and his style. One person said the man get swagger with his sense of dressing. I agree. Wenger is a good dresser. I no see any coach wey dress like Wenger all over the world. Are you asking me if I cry? No o but I am a bit sad he is leaving. My concern is for the young ones of Arsenal. No Warri boy go cry. We fit bed small but to cry go hard. lol.
