Iwobi Starts As Liverpool Outsmart Arsenal, Overtake Gunners Into Fourth Place

Liverpool and Arsenal faced real tests of their Premier League top four credentials when they clashed at Anfield Saturday evening but it was Liverpool who were victors at full time with a 3-1 win.

Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum were on the scoresheet for Liverpool while Danny Welbeck scored a consolation goal for the Gunners.

Arsenal have dropped to fifth place in the table while Liverpool climbed to fourth.

Both sides met on the opening day of the season but a depleted Arsenal side were beaten 4-3 by the Reds.

Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi was deployed in the attacking midfield position for Arsenal in place of Mesut Ozil who missed out through illness while Alexis Sanchez was surprisingly left on the bench from kick-off.

Liverpool opened scoring in the ninth minute, Firmino finishing off a Sadio Mane assist from close range to leave Petr Cech who could not claim his ninth clean sheet of the season helpless.

Cech pushed away a 29th minute shot by Coutinho for a corner but there was no stopping Mane five minutes before the half time to make it 2-0.

Firmino displayed great vision and sent a pass to the Senegalese who showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball into the back of the net.

Arsene Wenger brought in Sanchez at half time for Francis Coquelin and soon afterwards Olivier Giroud attempted to convert a lofted cross as he jumped high and headed the ball towards the roof of the net.
Simon Mignolet showed amazing reflexes on that occasion and pulled off a glorious save to stop the ball from hitting the net.

Welbeck restored Arsenal's hopes with a brilliant dink benefiting from a Sanchez through pass 12 minutes after the restart.

Origi almost made it 3-1 but his header off a freekick rebounded from the foot of the post but Wijnaldum would coolly dispatch the ball in added time to take the game beyond a poor Arsenal side.
