Belgium pipped England 1-0 to finish top of Group G of the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.
The only goal of the game was scored by former Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj whose 51st minute stunning left-foot curler secured Belgium their third group stage win.
Both teams rested key players with the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne, Axel Witzel, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderwereld on the bench for Belgium while Harry Kane, Jesse Lingard, Kyle Walker, Ashley Young and Kieran Trippier were not in action for England.
Belgium’s win means they finish top of Group G and will face Japan who are runners-up in Group H in the round of 16.
England who are second in Group G, will take on Group H winners Colombia in the last 16.
The last time both England and Belgium met at the World Cup was in the round of 16 of the 1990 edition in Italy with England winning 1-0 thanks to a David Platt’s extra-time goal.
And in Group G’s other game, Tunisia ended their campaign at this year’s World Cup with a 2-1 comeback win against debutants Panama.
Panama took the lead in the 33rd minute following an own goal by Yassine Meriah.
Tunisia equalised in the 51st minute thanks to Fakhreddine Ben Youssef before Wahbi Khazri made it 2-1 on 66 minutes.
Both teams had already been eliminated going into Thursday’s game with Tunisia finishing third with three points and Panama bottom with no points.
It was Tunisia’ s second ever win at a FIFA World Cup since they beat Mexico 3-1 in their first ever game at Argentina 1978.
