New Chievo Verona midfielder Joel Obi has praised Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho and Newcastle United gaffer, Rafael Benitez and his coach at Torino, Walter Mazzarri, for their contributions to his development as a player, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Obi was promoted from the Inter Milan youth team to the senior side by Mourinho on July 1, 2010 and Benitez handed him his Serie A debut against Cagliari.
“I have worked under some managers in the past who have taught me a lot. One of the best was Jose Mourinho who promoted me to the first team and then Rafael Benitez who gave me my first Serie A debut. I also have to thank Walter Mazzarri
(his coach at Torino),” Obi said during his presentation to the media by Chievo Verona
The 28 year old who has been call up for Nigeria’s 2019 African Cup Of Nations qualifier against Seychelles, is also eager to learn under his new manager at Chievo, Lorenzo D’Anna.
The Nigerian joined Chievo this summer from Torino where he started 16 of the 22 Serie A games he featured in, scoring five goal. He made 111 appearances in all competions, and netted seven goals overall.
