Joel Obi became the first Nigerian player to make 100 Serie A appearances on Saturday while in action for Torino in their 3-0 win over Bologna on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Goals from Lorenzo De Silvestri, Mbaye Niang and Iago Falque secured the win for Torino.
Obi surpassed Ogenyi Onazi who appeared in 76 Serie A games and scored four goals for Lazio, while Obafemi Martins made 88 Serie A appearances for Inter Milan and scored 28 goals.
Joel Obi played for only 34 minutes in Saturday’s encounter as he was replaced by Afriye Acquah in what was the Nigerian’s 12th start of the season for Torino. Obi has scored twice this season in Serie A.
