Jonathan To Falconets: I Want The U-20 Women’s W/Cup Crown

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday, 23 August 2014, sent a message of goodwill to Nigeria’s Women’s U-20 national team, Falconets ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup final against Germany.

Nigeria will in the early hours of Monday morning, play Germany in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup final, same team that defeated them 2-0 in the final in 2010 when Germany hosted the competition. The kickoff time is 12am Nigerian time.

Jonathan believes that Peter Dedevbo’s team can win the World Cup and reveals on Facebook what he told the Falconets on Saturday.

“This evening, I spoke with Nigeria’s Falconets currently participating at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup #Canada2014,” Jonathan began.

“I would like to share my words with you. I said to them: You have done very well by getting to the final.

The former Nigerian Vice President cum President went on: “I urge you to crown your efforts with ultimate victory tomorrow (Sunday) by playing with the greatest possible artistry, discipline, determination and patriotic zeal.

Nigeria’s number one citizen who has always rewarded sporting excellence since the start of his administration states that he will be ready to welcome the team in Abuja upon their arrival from Canada.

“I look forward to receiving you at the Presidential Villa with the winners’ trophy and you can be assured of the immense gratitude of the Federal Government and the very appreciative people of Nigeria,” Jonathan declared.

The Falconets drew with Mexico, but defeated South Korea and England in the group stage.

The Africans who have been ever present in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup since the first edition was held in 2002 will play the Germans that pipped France 2-1 in the semi-finals by 12 am on Monday morning.

France will play North Korea in the Third Place game.
