Kaduna United Players Owed 11 Months Salary

–Exit of Sabo Babayaro fingered as reason for govt lull in funds release

Inspite of bold efforts by the League Management Company, LMC to raise the welfare status of Glo Premier League players and improve the quality and standard of the Nigerian top flight to match global standards, it has emerged that players of Kaduna United have been without salaries in the past 11 months.

Things have continued to go from bad to worse for the one time Federation Cup winners that the players have merely turned to orphans, resorting to sustainint themselves through charity.

Findings reveal that this has forced many of the players to quit the club while seeking career and welfare deliverance elsewhere.

Worse still, coaches have found the club a ‘no-go area’ with Monday Odigie tracing his steps back after negotiating contract with management of the club after the exit of Ben Duamlong.

Despite the club being owned and sponsored by the Kaduna State government, it was gathered that the financial tap for the club appeared to have been locked in a manner suggestive of vendetta following the manner the former chairman of the club, Honorable Sabo Babayaro was eased out.

Babayaro sources in the club revealed, was a long time friend of the governor’s dating back to when Babayaro was managing a club known as Highlanders FC.

But apparantly not pleased with the manner Babayaro who is seen as god-father of Kaduna football was removed from office, it learnt the government was not happy hence delay in releasing money to the club.

This situation has affected the club as it find it difficult honouring league matches, a situation that came to a head when the club was unable to honour their Federation Cup match and was consequently walked over.

Kaduna United will visit Heartland of Owerri in a Premier League week 26 match slated for the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri today.
