By Izuchukwu Okosi:
Former Super Eagles assistant coach Simon Kalika has expressed shock over the continued exclusion of Bastia of France midfielder Sunday Mba from the Nigerian national team.
Stephen Keshi dropped the 2013 African Cup of Nations revelation from his 2014 World Cup squad and snubbed him for the four 2015 AFCON qualifiers the Eagles have played thus far.
Kalika bares his mind to Completesportsnigeria.com from his base in Holland:
“It’s surprising that a player like (Sunday) Mba has continued to be overlooked.
“We have seen the Eagles midfield lack some creativity in midfield and Mba could do just that for the team.
“The duo of Mikel and Ogenyi Onazi would be better off playing deeper to let a player like Mba or perhaps Joel Obi or Sone Aluko play in front of them,” Kalika opines.
The Suriname-born tactician however expresses his belief that the Eagles can qualify for the 2015 AFCON.
“Qualifying games for the Nations Cup is not over, is it?.
“They (Super Eagles) need to win their remaining two games, but they have to raise their games and play as a team.
“It will be bad news to concede first against Congo; so the defence would have to be disciplined. I wish them good luck.
Kalika worked with the present U-23 coach, Samson Siasia, in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. He recentlyly told Completesportsnigeria.com that they deserved another shot at the senior national team, just before the reinstatement of Stephen Keshi as national team boss.
