Kalu Gets Bordeaux Pardon After Skipping Training

By Adeboye Amosu:
Nigeria winger, Samuel Kalu, will not be punished by French club, Girondins Bordeaux after he failed to return to training as expected on Thursday after the international break, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Kalu, 21, featured in Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa last Saturday and the friendly encounter against the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

According to a report on French online news outlet, L’Equipe, Kalu failed to turn up for training on Thursday and did not answer calls from club officials to explain his absence from training.

The former KAA Gent of Belgium player later communicated his reason for not turning up in training to the club, stating that he woke up late due to the long trips he made during the international break.

Bordeuax, according to L’Equipe, were already preparing stiff sanction for the Super Eagles star before he called back to state the reason for his action.

The winger has made 10 appearances for Bordeaux in the Ligue 1 this season scoring once. He has made eight starts and two substitute appearances.

  • He was the last to get to the Eagles camp now didnt report for training cos he slept late when even Onyekuru that they both featured against Uganda already played a match yesterday…i hope he doesnt allow this attitude to ruin his career

Exactl @ luomo. That the problem I have with some of these kids, and that is why its difficult to put money on them that they will become greats. He plays a few games for his national team and he’s already missing training. later when he doesn’t smell the first team again, some people will come and tell us he’s being victimized for being an African player. He’s really lucky hes not getting any punishment for this act of indiscipline.

Luomo, whilst not condoning Kalu’s actions, there may have been more to his late arrival back in his club than we know at this time.
Not to forget, he played more games in the international break than say Onyekuru.
In the space of a few months, Kalu has gone from an unknown to become a rising star when it comes to international football.
Has anyone asked what impact this may be having on him already?
If, according to CSN’s account he woke up too late, that may be a sign of fatigue.
Rather than go all negative on Kalu, let’s keep an open mind and not rush into judgement unnecessarily.
      Kalu needs support, not criticism.
