Kanu Apologises For Super Eagles Defeat To Croatia, Stays Positive

By James Agberebi:
Former Nigeria international Nwankwo Kanu is confident the Super Eagles can still bounce back despite their 2-0 defeat to the Croatia in their Russia 2018 World Cup Group D opening game on Saturday.
The Super Eagles had a nightmare World Cup opener following an own goal by Oghenekaro Etebo and a penalty converted by Luka Modric.
The Super Eagles must now beat Iceland on Friday to keep their hope of staying in the tournament alive.
Iceland forced two-time World Cup winners Argentina to a 1-1 draw  with their goalkeeper also stopping Lionel Messi’s penalty.
“We apologise for not getting the three points but that’s football and we thank all for your suppport,” Kanu tweeted.
“Next  match we will do better and we still believe it’s not over. Up Eagles, remember it’s our team.”

    Rohr should start

    Iheanacho
    Moses Musa

    Iwobi
    Mikel Ndidi

    Idowu Balogun Ekong Ebuehi

    Uzoho

The best formation for the eagles is 4-2-1-3. 4(idowu, balogun, ekong, ebuehi), 2( Mikel and Ndidi as good holding defensive midfield giving cover for defence and Mikel able realease and connect defence- attack midfield), 1(Iwobi as attacking midfielder/ CAM) this will give him the space to operate, dribble and use his vision which he clearly has upfield to unleash balls to the forward 3(iheanacno, Moses, Musa).

Musa and Moses interchanging on the wings and Iheanacho in middle (really all 3 can rotate to give a flexible free flowing High pressure and unpredictable attack. Because Iheanacho coming in from the right flank can cut in and unleash his famous curlers same with Moses and Musa or cross the ball to another incoming striker or the CAM who will be coming in with pace and can really rock the back net(see iwobi goal against england). Definitely highly mobile attack. Substitute Iheanacho/Simy , Moses/Etebo because the 4-2-1-3 can easily become a 4-2-3-1 but this time Etebo in the offensive part of midfield and a 4-5-1 when under high pressure or defence. So this is a highly versatile attack and solid defense formation. Also Mikel can sub for Ogu when tired. That way if their physical fitness is tip top Nigeria can really play 90+ mins of high pressure attack and defending football. Give the opponents no rest the whole match.

If they don’t figure it out and really play with heart then Nigeria can just come home albeit embarrassing especially having a much better planned lead up to the world cup. The gains should not be discarded tho despite whatever the outcome is. If we have a consistent, well thought out srategies including scouting, friendlies, good consistent coaching and technical crew, CONSISTENCY we have what it takes win or possibly do really well in a world cup. The Matches so far have shown in soccer big names on paper don’t mean nothing on the pitch for international football. The key to success is a good blend, synergy and understanding between the players and tactics that plays to your available players strength. GREECE won Euro championship with no big name players.you don’t have much time just before major tournaments to train together unlike club football where you train and play together for many months. So that’s why having a system in place even in years were there is no major tournament where the team can play a lot friendlies, train together, try new formations, tactics, new players, same players in different positions etc. So when a tournament gets close you already have worked through a lot of what works and what doesn’t so during tournaments like this we spend it honing our strength
