One Nigerian icon is felicitating with another as the country’s No.1 sports newpaper marks its 20th anniversary.
Nwankwo Kanu, one of Nigeria’s and Africa’s most decorated footballers, has congratulated Complete Sports, Nigeria’s first and most successful all-sports daily newspaper, as it reaches two decades on the newsstands.
“Congratulations Mumini Alao (Complete Communications Limited Group Managing Director) and Complete Sports on your 20th anniversary. Keep moving forward, no stopping,” Kanu wrote on Twitter late on Thursday night, joining thousands of Complete Sports well-wishers.
The most widely read sports newspaper in Nigeria was first published on 18 December, 1995, incidentally just a few months before a young Kanu captained Nigeria’s Dream Team to Africa’s first men’s football gold at the Atlanta ’96 Olympics – an event Alao covered.
