Kanu Weeps, Pays Emotional Tribute As He Buries Late Mother

By Sab Osuji in Arochukwu:

Amannagwu in Arochukwu stood still Saturdy as the ancient city turned out to be a gathering of who is who in Nigeria, to bid the Late Sussan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme final goodbye as the 82-year-old mother of Nwankwo Kanu was finally laid to rest, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

A Service of Songs and christian wake keep were held on Friday night.

After a requiem mass at Presbyterian Church, Amannagwu, Arochukwu, the casket bearing the remains of Sussan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme was taken in a long motorcade of exotic vehicles from the church to her family house with traffic at snail speed as funeral undertakers, Apams Limited, made a show of the casket.

Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu, was full of tears as he read his mother's tribute in the church.

"Who will call me 'gift from God' again," Kanu asked as he recounted his relationship with his mother.

"Every morning before she goes to the market, my mother will come and call me 'gift from God".

"One day, I asked her, mother why do you call me 'gift from God' instead of "Nkwo- Nwa" as you used to?

"She replied that each time she sees me before going to the market, she sells off all her wares.

"That is such bond we shared. When I opened my Kanu Heart Foundation in 2000, it was down to her encouragement and support.

"I recall her most emotional words to me that I should always remain a good brother to my younger ones.

"That I promise to keep doing and to all humanity," Kanu said.

Late Sussan Nwannediya Kanu Iheme was lowered into her grave at 2.20pm, with Senate Deputy President, Ike Ekweremadu, Alex Otti – former APGA gubernatorial candidate, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Abia State – Governor Okezie Ikpeazu represented by Chime Nwanganga, Emeka Inyama – chairman of Abia Warriors, among others in attendance.

Congratulations the Super Falcon. But it’s important the Coach realised Oparanozie is a senior and very intelligent player.Otherwise Nigeria couldn’t have made it pass Bayana Bayana comes to talk of Lionnesses. Things have really changed and there are no more minors in soccer anymore and coaches should be aware of these facts. The experience of Oparanozie gave Falcons an aged over Cameroonian and South Africans.Meanwhile any of these country can win this championship. Rather, Oparanozie’s experience was too superior to the Falcons opponents. Congratulations once more for the Super Falcans and their Coaches. You guys did a great job. Thank you so much.
