Kayode On Target On Shakhtar Donetsk Debut

By James Agberebi:

Nigeria forward Olanrewaju Kayode scored on his debut for Shakhtar Donetsk in their 3-0 away win against Zorya in their Ukrainian top flight clash on Sunday.

Kayode, who came on in the 91st minute for Facundo Ferreyra, got on the score sheet in the 93rd minute to make it 3-0 for Shakhtar.

Shakhtar went 1-0 ahead thanks to Taison in the 41st minute.

And they went 2-0 in the 61st minute thanks to Ferreyra.

Kayode joined Shakhtar on loan from English Premier League runaway leaders Manchester City.

He was initially loaned to Spanish LaLiga club Girona but was left frustrated due to lack of playing time.

He played in 12 games for Girona without scoring before joining Shakhtar.

oya letthe clamour for Kayode’s invitation begin…lol

    • Clamour for Kayode?? He is already part of the current team or am I missing something?

I know he is unlikely to make the final world cup squad but he is currently part of the team.

He played against Argentina and also South Africa. He was in the squad against Zambia in the last qualifier.

The main strikers for the team in order are: Ighalo, Iheanacho, Ideye, Aaron Samuel and Kayode.

Coach Rohr should be told to invite kingsley sokari who plays in Tunisia. He is deadly and creative midfield player not like all our present combative midfielders. Based on fitness these players below are deserving invitation with intents to solve problematic positions. Ejide, Sadiq umar, obagoal martins, ideye, Cyriel desser, Ajayi and sokari Kingsley. Remember Efe Ambrose because our defence to be compacted and a no nonsense type of approach

Kayode was invited a few times but has not played a competitive match for the Super eagles. He was on the bench when Nigeria played Senegal. He looks like a good addition based on his goal ratio last season (21) but his move to Girona really affected his career and so dropped out of the squad. But with his recent move Shaker, I think he may have rediscovered his scoring from. Scoring a goal in only 2mins on your debut is no mean feat. So I recommend if continues this good conversion rate, then he should return back and join the trip to Russia. Afterall even Ighalo was initially dropped before he was recalled by Rohr.
